Description:

Rweya Primary School is located in Kisumu County, within the Kano Plains area, along Kibos Road, on a flood-prone site. The surrounding area is predominantly rural, with agriculture as the primary economic activity and minimal industrial development except Kibos Sugar Factory in the locality. In response to the frequent flooding experienced during the long rains, the design elevates the structures by at least one and a half foot, after raising the general ground level a foot above the road level.

The court design of the classrooms maximizes the use of the available plot, leaving ample space for playing fields and an attached Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) section. All existing indigenous trees were preserved to maintain the continuity of the school’s natural ambiance. The existing classrooms and other buildingĀ  structures were all derelict and uninhabitable and therefore were condemned by County Government of Kisumu. A temporary school had to be constructed on land beside the school. This was to enable new structures be constructed with leveling and excavation activities progressing without interruption of the school programs.
